Six weeks in Italy sounds like a long, relaxing vacation to most. But after completing their internships with Team Italy One, Janae R. and Rebecca W. were left to catch their collective breath while processing such an intense, exciting experience.

Participants in the Avant Ministries Internship Program, Rebecca and Janae studied Italian while immersing themselves in local culture. They learned first-hand the principles of a high-performance team and even had the joy of seeing a language school classmate place her trust in Christ. The Avant program was initiated this year to provide college students from a variety of academic backgrounds the opportunity to experience Short-Cycle Church Planting on site as they consider a possible future in missions.

While learning from the experiences of the team Rebecca, an International Ministries major at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL immersed herself into relationships with people from various social circles in Genoa. Her investment in relationships paid dividends when a friend she made in language school accepted Christ. Janae, a journalism major at Tabor College in Hillboro, KS shared many of the same  experiences while practicing her writing and photography skills. Check out Janae’s story and video essay about the unique cultural insights made while making her daily Genoa commute.
