Project Overview
In John 4 it says that as Jesus was traveling through Samaria he stopped to rest at the well of Jacob. There, he met a woman who had come at an unusual hour to draw water.
Jacob’s well was a common gathering place. It provided the environment where a conversation between a Galilean Rabbi and a Samaritan woman would take place.
That day Jesus approached a lost, needy woman and offered her a spring of living water that wells up to eternal life.
Italy is the epicenter of the coffee world. Cafès line the streets. Customers squeeze inside to drink espresso, lattes, and cappuccino. It is a central meeting point for social interaction.
In May of 2008, Team Italy One opened its own “Jacob’s Well”. This storefront, coffee house style ministry center is a place where members of the team can invite new contacts and introduce them to Jesus.
Increased Credibility
Jacob’s Well provides Team Italy One with an immediate and visible presence in its target area, the urban heart of Genoa. Located there is the University of Genoa which has more than 40,000 students studying subjects such as economics, architecture, and political science yet there is no known evangelistic witness.
By establishing a physical presence in the target area Team Italy One will quickly gain credibility with Italians and generate interest in the community.
Innovative Ministry
In addition to an immediate presence, Jacob’s Well also provides a culturally relevant ministry environment where the members of Team Italy One can share the good news of Jesus Christ.
Italian culture demands a strong relationship before visiting people in their homes. Jacob’s Well is a strategic meeting point to do Bible study and share life with Italians rather than bringing relative strangers into missionaries’ homes, or trying to immediately gain entrance into the Italian home.
A Strategic Platform
From Jacob’s Well, Team Italy One will then assemble and launch small group Bible studies that can be transplanted to various parts of the city and nurtured into church plants.
Team Italy One will mentor Italian leaders and empower them to take these simple churches to deeper levels of maturity and more rapid reproduction.
